Wrestling season winding down; ‘Dogs to host conference meet

Wrestling season winding down; ‘Dogs to host conference meet

The Greenwood Bulldogs’ wrestling team wrapped up their regular season last weekend in a dual meet at Van Buren, facing Rogers Heritage, Springdale Har-Ber, and Little Rock Catholic. Greenwood High School will host the conference tournament this weekend to determine eligibility and placement in the state tournament later this month.

At Van Buren last Saturday, the Bulldogs lost to perennial wrestling power Rogers Heritage by a score of 63-12. Winners for Greenwood in those matches included Alex Nolen (113 lbs.) and Drew Dundee (195 lbs.).

Against Springdale Har-Ber the Bulldogs won 46-23 on the strength of victories by Alex Nolen (113 lbs.), Caleb Erskine (138 lbs.), Bryce Allen (170 lbs.), Kenny Wood (182 lbs.), and Drew Dundee (195 lbs.).

Against Catholic, Greenwood won easily, 47-19, earning points from wins by Taylor Compton (152 lbs.), Kenny Wood, Donald Faulkenberry (195 lbs.), Drew Dundee (forfeit), Alex Nolen, Jacob Dewey (113 lbs.), Clay Watts (126 lbs.), Caleb Erskine, and Braxton Horne (138 lbs.)

Earlier in the week the Bulldogs were in action in Northwest Arkansas against Bentonville and Fayetteville last Tuesday, winning both meets. They defeated Bentonville 54-27 and topped the Purple Dogs of Fayetteville 54-21.

GHS Head Coach John Kincade watched with pride as Taylor Compton, Luke Palmer (152 lbs.), Kenny Wood, Drew Dundee, Gunnar White, Jon Womach (285 lbs.), Kalin White (113 lbs.), Dustin Williams (120 lbs.), Clay Watts, and Caleb Erskine all earned victories over their Fayetteville opponents.

Against the Bentonville Tigers the GHS winners’ circle included Luke Palmer (160 lbs.), Bryce Allen, Michael Dover (182 lbs.), Drew Dundee, Jon Womach (forfeit), Alex Nolen, Dustin Williams, Clay Watts, and Taylor Compton (forfeit).

Greenwood High School will host the Big West Conference Tournament this weekend, Friday and Saturday, February 13-14. Qualifiers will move on to the state tournament in Little Rock the following weekend, February 20-21.
