Greenwood wrestlers had a very strong showing. This year’s National Champion Taylor Compton finished 2nd in the tournament last year losing to a 2-Time State Champion from Wisconsin 3-1 in the finals.

Bryce Allen also had a terrific tournament wrestling five different states to finish 3rd at 160 pounds. Caleb Erskine had close matches throughout the 2-day tournament. Bailey Rodgers and Jadrien Flores had great showings and will return for next year since they are only Sophomores. Matthew Jackson and Tanner Philpot wrestled some very close matches. A College Coach from Quachita Baptist has inquired of Greenwood Wrestling Coach John Kincade as to Tanner Philpot’s future plans wanting to know if Tanner would continue wrestling in. Coach’s answer, “Only Tanner could answer that for him”.

Coaches John Kincade and Shawn Shaffer were very pleased with the GHS performance at the National Tournament.

GHS wrestlers also competed at the Arkansas Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Competition at Springdale Har-Ber High School on May 3rd. There, Taylor Compton won First in Freestyle, Dustin Williams placed Second in Greco-Roman, Third in Freestyle and Cameron Palmer won Fourth Place in Greco-Roman.

This win for Taylor Compton means that he is now a Two-Time State Champion in Folkstyle, Two Time State Champion in Freestyle, a National Champion and a National Runner-Up and he still has his senior year ahead of him at GHS!

Rusty and Matthew Jackson also participated in the State Tournament and each had a great showing. Finishing in the top 4 qualifies for the Arkansas’ National Team in which GHS Coach John Kincade is to serve as one of the coaches.

The National Team will participate in the National Freestyle and Greco-Roman Championships in Fargo, North Dakota later in July. Donations will be accepted to help defray the travel costs for the team.
