It’s Not All Work. Troop 54 Also Has Fun

The Chimney is a remnant of Merle Haggard’s Grandma Harp’s Cabin that was absorbed into the Ponca wilderness area. Haggard has a nice song about “Grandma Harp.” The boys pausing for a break are: Dax Lewis, Paul Mickey, Gregg Mickey, Trent Powell, Drake Brandon, Tyler Coble and Jacob Smith.

Community service projects by Greenwood’s historic Boy Scout Troop 54 abound in our area. The troop also enjoys some outings designed to be purely fun. Scout Masters seem to see to it that there is also some education in the mix.

The Troop recently went to Camp Orr on the Buffalo National River and hiked into the Ponca Wilderness area to Hemmed-in Hollow falls.  Hemmed-in Hollow has the tallest waterfall between the Appalachian and the Rocky mountains.  The only way to see and enjoy this is by foot or canoe.

We are assured the trip was fun and that the water was cold. The trip included seven river crossings to make the journey because of the rugged terrain.
