Sebastian County Clerk, Sharon Brooks, announced today she will seek reelection for a third term in 2014. Brooks, a Republican from Fort Smith was first elected to the position in 2010.

Mrs. Brooks has instituted many positive changes in the County Clerk’s office. The County Clerk’s office now accepts credit card payments for services both in person and by telephone. Phase one of efforts to digitize county records is in progress as one of her major goals. Brooks has implemented a digitized map to better assist voters in locating their precincts, a process which will also help greatly in future redistricting efforts. Brooks has saved the taxpayers thousands of dollars by streamlining several software systems into one. Under her leadership, the County Clerk’s office, has upgraded its website and has redesigned the G-8 office to better accommodate early voting at the courthouse. Another short term goal is incorporating electronic poll books for better service at polling sites.

Sharon Brooks has implemented professional development opportunities for employees, and currently uses spreadsheets instead of ledgers for bookkeeping.  Brooks’s staff has participated in many training venues in an effort to keep them current and compliant with newly enacted legislation. The staff benefits from continuous cross training that has prepared them to be able to better serve the citizens of Sebastian County. During her time in office, Brooks reorganized her staff and implemented new managerial responsibilities for both the Fort Smith and Greenwood offices to better serve the citizens of Sebastian County.

“I am thankful to the citizens of Sebastian County for every day that I have served as your County Clerk. I have worked diligently to earn and keep your trust in myself as well as my staff. The number one priority of this office is always to serve Sebastian County Citizens and provide you with the information that they seek in a professional, courteous and prompt manner. I will continue to work toward offering access to online records as well as other ways to improve the services offered by this office. My staff and I are committed to offer the best customer service and assistance to all who call or come into the office. There is still much to be done in way of improving services to the public and I am looking forward to implementing new ideas in 2014 and beyond. Once again I am asking for your vote of confidence and look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve as your County Clerk.”

Sharon and her husband, Carter Brooks, have four children (two of whom are serving our country in the military) and two grandchildren. They are members of the Ninth St Church of Christ.  Brooks is VP of Sebastian County Republican Women, a member of The Arkansas Association of County Clerks, Southside Rotary Club, Fidelity Women’s Club, International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT), Area Agency on Aging Board Member, Arkansas Circuit Clerk’s Grants Committee, Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Focus on Greenwood and   City of Fort Smith, Police, Fire and Sheriff Department Citizen Academies.
