Scouts Thank Harris-Hannah V.F.W. Post #6527

thanks photoTroop 54 recently camped, rappelled and climbed at Fern Gully in the Ozark National Forrest.  Fern Gully is located close to the town of Fern on Arkansas Highway 215 about 15 miles north of I-40.

The area is a gully with pristine sandstone bluffs that line the sides. A creek meanders through the gully’s floor cascading over and around boulders as big as a house throughout the gully and between the canyon walls.

The creek stretches through a perfect layer of sand stone giving way to “Grade A” bouldering and sport climbing.  There are endless amounts of bouldering opportunities and the area is home to over 50 sport routes.

Greenwood’s local V.F.W. Post #6527 has reimbursed the troop for safety gear every year allowing the Troop to continue this high adventure opportunity and to remain safe while enjoying it.

This year were added some harnesses, helmets and a zip-line carriage to the program.

“Our community is fortunate to have such a fine group as the V.F.W. supporting the local Troop 54 and we thank them so much” says Scoutmaster Rod Powell.
