An art exhibit at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith featuring a plethora of artwork from a Fort Smith native is on display through April 30 in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, and a reception for the exhibit is slated for April 15.

“Homecoming” features works created by artist Dominique Simmons over the last 20 years on various mediums, and Simmons said the exhibit is “somewhat of a retrospective.”

“There is a restlessness in my work as seen in my interest in a wide range of themes and media,” Simmons said. “I am interested in religion, social justice, cultural differences and personal psychological narratives. All of my work has components of movement, illustrated by distinct and energetic mark-making.”

Simmons graduated from Northside High School and attended Westark Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in printmaking from Arkansas State University and a master’s degree in drawing from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She currently lives in Little Rock, where she has previously taught at the Arkansas Arts Center and UALR.

The reception will take place at 5 p.m. in the campus center and is open to the public. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Fridays, and the exhibit is located on the west end of the first floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.
