Griffith Addresses Focus on Greenwood, Receives Legislative Citation

Christian Griffith, a future senior at Greenwood High School, presented a speech over “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future” to members of Focus on Greenwood and their guests on June 18. He is pictured with president Joel Goldstein, left, as he received a legislative citation from Focus on Greenwood member, State Representative Charlotte Douglas and the House of Representatives of the Eighty-Ninth General Assembly of the State of Arkansas. The citation was for his interest in government and representing the State of Arkansas.

Griffith was chosen as one of fifty-four students, one from each state and selected territories, from a total field of over 40,000 to compete in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ National Voice of Democracy competition. Griffith traveled with the other fifty-three to Washington D.C. in February where they toured the Capital and many historical sites throughout the city. He finished nineteenth overall at the competition, winning a $2000 scholarship. The state winners were reunited at the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge’s Spirit of American Youth Leadership Program this past week. At the program they participated in a mock congress, entrepreneur workshops, and tours of Valley Forge and the history of the city of Philadelphia.
