Giving Back in Greenwood: Hannah Hesslen, “Books for Bedtime” and Pizza Hut

hannah-hesslen-storyHannah Hesslen, a junior at Greenwood High School, presents a check to Mrs. Bridges, Director of the ABC pre-school. Hannah raised funds from a “Pizza Hut Fund Raising Event” to purchase a book for each pre-school student in the ABC program who completed the “Books for Bedtime” challenge.

This challenge, issued by Hannah, is based on research suggesting that reading aloud to young children increases their academic development and language acquisition. Hannah will reward each student for their participation in the challenge by having a “Pajama Party” with them on May 21 where she and the students will dress in their pajamas, eat popcorn, and listen to Hannah read to them. Each student will then receive their free book to take home and enjoy. Hannah has a heart for children and for reading. Hannah smiled as she said, “I want to be a good role model for younger children and help by giving back to this wonderful community. It is my pleasure to give back to the community that has given so much to me and my family.”

Pizza Hut in Greenwood made the fund raising opportunity possible. Hannah made it work. The Greenwood Tradition commends Hannah and Pizza Hut for this fine example of “Giving Back in Greenwood.”
