Greenwood’s Taylor Compton, the Bulldogs’ best wrestler and a reigning state champion, placed first in the 138-pounds division and is currently 37-1 on the season.

Freshman Drew Dundee finished fourth at 182 pounds. According to GHS Wrestling head coach John Kincade, Greenwood had six wrestlers finish among the top six in their weight categories. Fifteen GHS wrestlers participated in the tournament.

Also this past weekend, members of the junior varsity team wrestled at a tournament in Fayetteville. Jadrien Flores finished in first place at 170 pounds; Trenton Cowan finished second at 152 pounds, as did Evan McClure at 126 pounds. Charlie Scott placed fourth at 160 pounds. Nine Bulldogs participated in that event.

Coach Kincade was scheduled to take his team to Van Buren this past Tuesday afternoon, weather permitting, to wrestle against teams from Searcy and Gentry. They will be at home on Thursday against Poteau at 6 pm. Greenwood holds its home matches in the old rock gym on the GHS campus.

This coming weekend, Greenwood will host the junior varsity Big West Conference Tournament, starting at 9 am. The varsity state wrestling tournament will be at the Stevens Center at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock on February 14-15.
