GHS track teams compete in Tiger Relays

GHS track and field Head Coach Brian Sims and his girls’ and boys’ teams competed in the Tiger Relays at Mansfield last week, finishing high among the 18 teams that participated. The Lady Bulldogs placed third overall with 172 points, trailing first place Alma (225) and second place Waldron (214). The GHS boys finished fifth with 72 points. Alma also won the boys’ competition with 124 points.

For the Bulldogs, Daylon Hood (12.06) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash, while teammate Caden Martin placed sixth with a time of 12.10 seconds. Martin also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.11. In the longer sprint, Greenwood’s Austin Curry won first place points in the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 52.45 seconds. Aaron Testerman also placed fifth for the Bulldogs at 56.26.

In the 1600-meter run, Greenwood’s Jerod Powell earned third place points with a time of 5:11.63. In the 3200-meter run the Bulldogs earned sixth place points when Stoney Jackson turned in a time of 12:35.42.

In the 110-meter high hurdles Gunner Walter placed fifth (17.85), while also finishing third in the 300-meter high hurdles with a time of 46.49 seconds.

In the team relay events, Greenwood placed fifth (47.11) in the 4×100 meter relay, fifth (4:05.76) in the 4×400 meter relay, and sixth (10:07.07) in the 4×800 meter relay event.

In the long jump, Greenwood’s Daylon Hood placed sixth with a distance of 18’8”, and in the shot put, the Bulldogs got third place points from John Sherouse with a toss of 43’9½”. GHS senior Colton Sims earned fifth place points in the discus throw with a distance of 112’4”.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Bulldogs scored third place points in the 100-meter dash when Kassy Ballard turned in a time of 13.83 seconds. She also ran second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.31 seconds. Laurel Yeager placed first in the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 1:04.23.

Yeager also ran first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.70. Greenwood’s Kayla Reed placed fourth in the 1600-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 6:21.42. Reed also placed third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:46.20.

Greenwood’s Callie Harmon placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.39 seconds. She also finished second the 300-meter high hurdles with a time of 49.71 seconds.

The GHS girls’ 4×100-meter relay team earned third place points with a time of 55.47 seconds. The 4×400-meter squad ran fourth with a time of 4:54.65. The 4×800-meter team also ran fourth at 12:10.33.

Veronica Shumaker placed fifth for Greenwood in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4’8”. Laurel Yeager won first place points for the Lady Bulldogs in the long jump with a distance of 17’1”. Yeager also placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 33’10½”.
