Gerald Ray “Jerry” Solesbee

Gerald Ray “Jerry” Solesbee of Greenwood, Arkansas died Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Greenwood, Arkansas.  He was born August 11, 1944 in Fullerton, California to Jim and Louise (Wilkerson) Solesbee.  He was a retired businessman and rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Solesbee of Greenwood. Two daughters, RaeAnn Cherry of Lynden, Washington and Shannon Horton of Spiro, Oklahoma.  One brother, Roger Solesbee of Greenwood/Kabul, Afghanistan. Ten grandchildren, Kevin Cherry of Fayetteville, Krystina Passmore of Muldrow, OK, Kyle, Kayson and Kourtland Cherry of Fort Smith, Skyler and Trevor Heitzman of Lynden, Washington, Breckin, Kirwin and Caden Horton of Spiro, OK.  Two great-grandchildren, Maci and Dallas Passmore of Muldrow, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Louise Solesbee, brothers Ronnie Solesbee of Greenwood, AR and Charles Donald Solesbee of Fullerton, California, and his grandson, Konnor Lanier Cherry.

He was a big man with a big presence. Whether dressed in Big Smith overalls, jeans and boots or warm-ups pants and a bare chest he went about life just the same.  He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was happiest on the farm or at the racetrack with his horses. He had a huge heart and was willing to help anyone who needed it.  His wit, mischievousness and general orneriness will be missed.

Family visitation was held at McConnell Funeral Home, Greenwood, Arkansas on Thursday, April 3 from 6-8 pm.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, his team roping buddies and his horse racing friends.
