Cohea Recipient of C.B. Smith Scholarship

Bryce Cohea, son of Robin and Mike Cohea, is this year’s recipient of the C. B. Smith Science Scholarship. The $500.00 scholarship was established in honor of Smith who served as superintendent of the Greenwood School District for 21 years and taught chemistry and biology during his service to the Greenwood Schools.

The scholarship goes to a graduating senior who has the highest grades in Honors science classes taken in grades 9-12. Cohea took every Pre-AP and AP Science Class available within the school district. While at GHS, Cohea was active in the GHS Beta Club (serving as Vice-President), National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl Team and Chess Team. Bryce also placed 1st in the Beta Club State Science Competition during his junior and senior years and placed 1st in the Beta Club National Science Competition during his junior year. He will compete again this year in the science competition at the National Beta Convention in Orlando, Florida. Cohea will attend either Tulsa University or Vanderbilt University in Nashville and major in Biology and then continue on in science research by applying to medical school or applying to grad school to earn his PhD. He received the scholarship from Science Department Chairman, Joann King.
