Burnville Baptist Church: “Blessed by Helping Others”…the “Hinds Feet Project”

Prior to the Civil War, it was referred to as Burnville Community Church. The congregation over the next fifty years moved the facility within a mile or two, but never out of the neighborhood.

Today it is a vibrant and hearty congregation, some from farms in the area and some traveling to the Sunday and Wednesday services to participate in a traditional service mixed a with some contemporary praise music.

Pastor Mark Heathcott has the advantage of having lived in the area since 1977, knows what is expected and delivers. He says, “These are good people of all ages and they make a great congregation. Our Youth Ministry and the Women’s Ministry are really making things happen there.” Heathcott takes the scriptures to heart. Quoting Matthew 6:33 referring to the needs of people for food, drink and clothing, saying, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”

The Burnville Baptist congregation is engaed in the community around them. There is a food bank and the “Souper Bowl” project where members of the congregation bring food to the church to be distributed to those in need.

Then there is the “Hinds Feet” Project.

“He maketh my feet like hinds feet, and setteth me upon my high places,” Psalms 18:33

This describes the ability for anyone to overcome a challenge that has been affecting them. With God, we can overcome obstacles, set-backs, trials and troubles in our lives. However, we already have the victory through Jesus Christ. You have “Hinds Feet,” and you have already overcome, because Jesus overcame the world.

A hind is a female, red deer, able to move easily and rapidly across the terrain of mountainous landscape. It will leap from rocks without losing footing, suggesting that those with hinds’ feet are able to overcome things easily and elegantly.

This biblical verse suggests that God has inspired all believers and the Bible reinforces this and helps Christians to overcome any issues they are struggling with without worry.

The Burnville Baptist Church has been collecting “gently used” shoes for the past few years. The shoes we have collected have been used to bless the homeless and those who are less fortunate. Shoes have been donated to the Fort Smith Community Rescue Mission, the Crisis Intervention Center and various individuals in need within our community. Members and friends have donated shoe boxes as well for the packaging.

We are asking for your assistance as we continue to offer the blessing of shoes to those in need. The Bible gives us all a very clear direction in our need to give glory to God by helping those that are in need. Please start now by donating a pair of shoes.

You may contact Burnville Baptist Church at 479-996-1779 or 479-322-8248 and arrangements can be made to pick up the donated shoes.

Together we can help make a difference in the lives of others who are less privileged and through prayer and encouragement we can inspire them to achieve.
