The South Sebastian County Historical Society was established in 1963 to renovate the Old Jail into a museum. Built in 1892, the building was abandoned and left ot the ravages of time.

Saved it was and by 1966, a museum was born, a magazine was published (The Key) and history was not only made…it was saved.

The 2015 opening of the Old Jail Museum and the 6th annual “Airing of the Quilts” sponsored by Alpha Delta Chapter of ESA, will be Friday and Saturday May 1-2 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The South Sebastian County Historical Society is asking businesses in Greenwood and residences along North Main Street to participate by displaying quilts of their own in their front windows or on their porches those two days.

If you would like to loan a vintage quilt to be displayed at the Old Jail Museum those two days, please contact Emily Mitchusson at 252-6071.
